When will my registration be confirmed?When you have registered online with The British Council, your registration is binding and will be confirmed by your test centre by email. Only candidates who complete the registration process by providing full personal details (Home address, Telephone number, email, etc.) and a photo of their passport/National I.D. Card, will be permitted to take the test. For Oslo test centre, you will only receive a confirmation email after you have provided all your personal details and photo of I.D. and have paid for the test. Failure to comply by the registration deadline will result in you being removed from the test, but will still be liable for the full test fee (Administrative Cancellation).
I can’t upload a photo of my passport when I register. What should I do?This happens quite often, so no need to panic! You can still complete your registration with the British Council -WITHOUT having to upload a photo of your passport. Once you have completed the registration, please email your test centre a good quality photo of your passport. When will my speaking test be?We endeavour to send out speaking test time emails approx.10 days before your test. We try to allocate speaking test times on a geographical basis. If you live in or close to the test centre, we generally will give you a speaking test on the afternoon before the written part of the test. For those living far outwith the test centre, we try to give you a test time on the afternoon - of the main test day. Earlier test times are prioritised for those living furthest from the test centre.
Can I request a speaking test time? YES speaking test times can be requested in writing (email) to your test centre - any time up to 2 weeks before the test. Whilst we cannot guarantee a specific time, we do try our best to be as accommodating as possible!
I cannot see any free test places. Do you have a wait list? YES we do have wait lists for our tests and we are happy to add your name and contact details to the list for a specific test if you contact the test centre either by email or by telephone. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to offer you a test place, but we will contact you should a place become available.
Can I use a computer for the test / Can I get extra time for my IELTS test? The IELTS test is a paper based test in Norway and most other countries for most test takers. For those who have specific needs for a computer and/or extra time, the test centre should be contacted in writing and valid documentation* from your medical specialist provided, to indicate the reason for your requirements. The test centre will send you specific details for the use of Extra time and/or computer. Up to 25% extra time can be allocated for the written parts of the test (Listening, Reading and Writing) for candidates with special requirements. Computers can only be used with a basic word processing program - with spell and grammar check disabled.
Can I use headphones for the listening test? Headphones are only permitted in special circumstances for candidates with specific hearing difficulties - and who have requested in writing that they wish to use them. Requests must also be accompanied by valid documentation* from a medical specialist.
I have a Sight, Speaking or Hearing impediment. Can I take IELTS? Candidates who require modified materials for their IELTS test must inform their test centre at least 3 months prior to their test date - to allow for these to ordered in time. Candidates not requiring modified materials should clearly indicate the nature of their impediment and special requirements when they register and provide valid documentation* accordingly.

The evidence must be accessible to the Administrator in terms of language and legibility Be an original document, on headed paper, by qualified professional Make it clear how the disability justifies the special arrangements
If you are a candidate with a specific learning difficulty, the following criteria also apply:
Written when you were aged 13 or older
With full details of the learning difficulty and tests which have been carried out
What I.D. am I permitted to use for my test? You are only permitted to use a valid Passport/Reisebevis or National ID card (EU, EEA and Swiss citizens ONLY) Please note: Oppholdstillatelse (Residency permit), Driver’s Licence, Student Cards etc. are NOTpermitted as valid forms of I.D. by IELTS.
What should I bring for my test? You should only bring your Passport/National ID card to the test. You can also have a clear/see through bottle of water if desired. You DO NOT need to bring anything else. All writing implements (pencils and erasers) are provided. All other personal belongings have to be left in a baggage room (which is locked during the test). Mobile phones and other electronic items MUST be switched off during the test and stored with your other belongings. Folkeuniversitetet does not accept any responsibility for your personal belongings - and they are left in the baggage room at your own risk.
When do I receive my test results? Test results are released 13 days after your test date. Results can be viewed online here up to 40 days after they have been released. Test results will also be sent by post to your home address (and institutions by post or electronically - if the institution is STED registered to receive results from IELTS). We can also send emails - with a link - for registered institutions to access your results online.
Can I collect my results instead of having them sent? Your Test Report Form (TRF) can be collected in person at the reception of either Folkeuniversitetet in Bergen (for tests in FolkeuniversitetetBergen, FolkeuniversitetetHamar or FolkeuniversitetetStavanger) or Folkeuniversitetet in Oslo - 13 days after your test date - before 1300. TRF’s will only be released to the candidate on presentation of the Passport/National I.D. Card that you used for your test. We are not permitted to release TRF’s without valid I.D. being shown!
Can I get my results given to me over the phone?No, we are only permitted to send you your results by post.
Why have I not received my results yet? Postal services will usually only deliver letters to addresses that have names attached to post boxes. If your post box or residence does not have your name clearly indicated, your Test Report Form may well be returned to your test centre - resulting in potentially long delays in you receiving your results.
How long is my test result valid for? Test results are valid for 2 years after your test date.
Can I request that I have my results sent to schools/universities/businesses etc.? Results can be sent by Folkeuniversitetet up to 2 years after your test date - thereafter, results are neither accessible nor valid. For results to be sent by post, we must have full postal addresses with relevant contact person/department. Many academic institutions are already STED registered with IELTS to receive results electronically and they can check results when released.
How many copies of my test result can I request to be sent?(Folkeuniversitetet Bergen, Folkeuniversitetet Hamar + Folkeuniversitetet Stavanger) Up to 5 free hard copies can be sent to institutions on request - over a 2 year period from the date of your test. Up to 5 free electronic copies can also be sent - (accessed through the IELTS verification system). (Folkeuniversitetet Oslo) Up to 5 free copies can be sent within the first calendar month after your test - thereafter, there will be a charge of NOK 190 per copy. You can request in writing - by email - that your test centre delays sending your results to receiving institutions until you have received the results yourself.
Can I get an electronic copy of my results? Test centres are NOT permitted to send electronic versions (PDF’s) of your results. You can scan your own Test Report Form (TRF) and upload/email a copy to requesting institutions if required.
Can I ask for my answers papers to be re-marked? If you think that you should have attained a higher score than you did, you can request an Enquiry on Results (EOR) which will enable you to have one or more sections of your test re-marked. An EOR costs NOK 1000 but will not guarantee that your score will improve. If your score does improve, the fee of NOK 1000 is refundable. EOR scores are definitive and are not negotiable. Please note though that scores can also decrease! You must make this request for an EOR in writing to your test centre - within 6 weeks of your test date.
If you wish to request an EOR, you can download the Enquiry on Results form here. The form will then need to be returned to the test centre by. If your overall test result should improve, you will be required to send back your original Test Report Form(TRF) before we can send you a new TRF with the changed score. An invoice for the EOR will be sent to you by email.
Your EOR will normally be available in 2 - 21 days.
What do I do if I wish to make a complaint about the test day? If you wish to make a complaint regarding the conduct of your test day, you MUST do so before you leave the test centre on the day of your test. Complaints made after you leave the test centre will not be considered. You should request that you speak to the test day supervisor, who will then ask you to write down the nature of your complaint. All complaints remain confidential and your test centre will contact you in writing within 3 days of your complaint.
